Units Carry Meaning
A physical measurement is a number together with a unit and an appropriate level of precision. Metric prefixes change the scale by powers of ten, and conversion factors change the numerical representation without changing the physical quantity.
1 km = 10³ m; 1 cm = 10⁻² m; percent uncertainty = (absolute uncertainty/value) × 100%.
Example: 2.5 km and 2500 m describe the same length because 1 km = 1000 m.
