A college student holding a large ring of keys in front of one locked door, representing how too many physics resources can create confusion without clear guidance.

Why College Physics Students Need Clarity, Not More Resources

In college physics, giving students more resources can feel like giving someone a ring full of keys to open one lock.
They may have many options in their hands, but if they do not know which key fits, they can spend a lot of time trying the wrong ones. That does not create confidence. It creates frustration.
In today’s environment, students are surrounded by resources: videos, class notes, homework systems, AI tools, tutoring centers, study guides, and practice problems. All these resources are now accessible in the palm of their hands. But more access is not the same as clarity.
A struggling student may need help recovering. An average student may need help becoming consistent. A good student may need help performing with confidence under pressure. A strong student may need help reaching the next level. Different students need different keys.
That is why support in college physics should be more than remediation. If support only appears when a student is failing, we miss many students who could still improve with the right direction.
Support should help students identify where they are, what they need, and what their next step should be.
Not more resources for the sake of more resources. Not replacing instruction. Not only helping students in crisis.
But offering a support layer that reduces confusion, creates clarity, and helps more students move to their next level.
This is the idea behind the Gateway Physics Readiness Pilot, but the pilot is only the beginning.
The real goal is continuous support during the semester. Not support that simply waits for students to fail, but support that helps students identify the right key sooner.
Because in today’s learning environment, access is not the problem. Clarity is.
